BLKBAR Ltd Terms and Conditions

Last Updated: 27 September 2026

1. Introduction

Welcome to BLKBAR Ltd (“BLKBAR”, “we”, “our”, or “us”). These Terms and Conditions (“Terms”) govern your use of the BLKBAR mobile application, website, and related services (collectively, the “Platform”).

By accessing or using the Platform, you agree to comply with and be legally bound by these Terms. If you do not agree to these Terms, you must not use the Platform.

BLKBAR is a UK-based digital marketplace that connects clients with independent hairstylists, braiders, barbers, and beauty professionals specialising in Afro and textured hair.

2. Definitions

Throughout these Terms:

“Platform” refers to the BLKBAR app, website, and associated services.

“Client” refers to any user booking or seeking hair or beauty services.

“Stylist” refers to any independent professional offering services through the Platform.

“Booking” refers to an appointment made through the Platform.

“Content” refers to text, images, videos, reviews, messages, and other uploaded material.

“Deposit” refers to the percentage of the Booking value that a Stylist may set as non-refundable whenever a Client cancels.

“Cancellation Window” refers to the two notice periods before a Booking’s scheduled start time, set by the Stylist, that decide how much is refunded when a Client cancels: a full-refund period (for example 48 hours) and a later no-refund period (for example 24 hours).

“Stylist Agreement” refers to the separate Stylist Independent Contractor Agreement entered into between BLKBAR and each Stylist. The Stylist Agreement governs the Stylist’s relationship with BLKBAR and, in the event of any conflict with these Terms in relation to Stylist obligations, the Stylist Agreement prevails.

“Verification Badge” refers to an indicator BLKBAR may display on a Stylist’s profile confirming that BLKBAR has reviewed evidence of that Stylist’s insurance as at a stated date. A Verification Badge reflects a point-in-time review only and is not a continuing guarantee.

3. Eligibility

To use BLKBAR, users must:

Be at least 18 years old, or use the Platform with parental/guardian supervision

Provide accurate account information

Use the Platform lawfully

Agree to these Terms and our Privacy Policy

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms.

4. Nature of the Service

BLKBAR is a technology platform and marketplace. We do not directly provide hair or beauty services.

Stylists using the Platform are independent professionals and are not employees, agents, or representatives of BLKBAR.

BLKBAR’s role is limited to:

Facilitating stylist discovery

Enabling bookings

Supporting payments

Providing communication tools

Maintaining marketplace functionality

Any agreement for services is made directly between the Client and the Stylist.

BLKBAR does not provide, arrange, or verify insurance on behalf of Stylists. Except where a Verification Badge is displayed on a Stylist’s profile (which reflects only a review carried out as at the date shown), BLKBAR does not verify, and does not guarantee, that any Stylist holds valid insurance. Clients enter into the service agreement directly with the Stylist and are responsible for confirming a Stylist’s suitability, including insurance where relevant, before booking.

5. User Accounts

Users may be required to create an account to access certain features. Users agree to:

Provide accurate information

Keep login credentials secure

Maintain updated account information

Accept responsibility for activity under their account

We may suspend or remove accounts where:

Fraudulent activity is suspected

Abuse or harassment occurs

False information is provided

These Terms are violated

6. Stylist Responsibilities

Stylists using BLKBAR agree to:

Provide accurate service descriptions and pricing

Deliver services professionally and lawfully

Maintain appropriate hygiene and safety standards

Honour confirmed bookings where reasonably possible

Communicate professionally with clients

Hold, maintain and keep current, throughout the period they offer services through the Platform, all licences, qualifications, registrations and insurance appropriate to the services they offer, in accordance with the Stylist Agreement. This is a condition of using the Platform and applies whether or not such insurance is separately required by law.

Stylists are solely responsible for:

Their services

Their conduct

Their pricing

Tax obligations

Insurance requirements

Legal compliance

Insurance

Stylists warrant that they hold, and will maintain for the entire period they offer services through the Platform, adequate and valid insurance appropriate to their services, including as a minimum valid public liability insurance and treatment (professional) liability insurance covering the services they provide through BLKBAR, and employers’ liability insurance where they engage any staff. The specific insurance requirements, including minimum cover levels, are set out in the Stylist Agreement.

Stylists agree to provide evidence of their insurance to BLKBAR promptly on request. BLKBAR may request such evidence at any time.

Where BLKBAR displays a Verification Badge on a Stylist’s profile, it reflects only a review of evidence carried out as at the date shown and is not a continuing guarantee, certification, or warranty that the Stylist is insured at the time of any Booking or service. BLKBAR is under no obligation to verify, and does not routinely verify, whether any Stylist holds valid insurance, and does not guarantee that any Stylist is insured. The absence of a Verification Badge does not indicate that a Stylist is uninsured.

Failure to hold the required insurance, or to provide evidence of it on request, may result in suspension or removal from the Platform.

BLKBAR reserves the right to remove Stylists who receive repeated complaints or fail to meet platform standards.

7. Client Responsibilities

Clients using BLKBAR agree to:

Provide accurate booking information

Treat Stylists respectfully

Attend appointments on time

Follow any preparation instructions provided by the Stylist

Pay agreed fees for booked services

Acknowledge that Stylists are independent professionals responsible for their own insurance, and that BLKBAR does not verify or guarantee that every Stylist holds insurance (see Section 4)

Clients must not:

Harass or abuse Stylists

Attempt fraudulent chargebacks

Use the Platform unlawfully

Upload offensive or harmful content

8. Bookings & Payments

Booking Process

Bookings made through BLKBAR are requests for appointments with independent Stylists. Once confirmed, both parties are expected to honour the appointment.

Payments

Payments may be processed through third-party providers such as Stripe. By making payments through the Platform, users agree that:

Payment processing fees may apply

BLKBAR may deduct platform commissions

Certain payments may be held temporarily for fraud prevention or dispute management

When a Booking is 6 days away or less, BLKBAR authorises (holds) the Booking amount on the Client’s payment card. This amount is not charged unless and until it is captured in accordance with these Terms. When a Booking is more than 6 days away, the Booking amount is charged when the Booking is made (a card hold wouldn’t last that long), and any refund due under Section 9 goes back to the same card.

If the Booking is completed, or if the Client cancels within the applicable Cancellation Window, or fails to attend as a no-show, the relevant amount will be captured (charged), or kept where it was charged at booking, in accordance with Section 9 (Cancellations & Refunds).

Platform Commission

BLKBAR may charge Stylists a commission fee on completed bookings. BLKBAR’s commission is currently 0%. Clients pay a BLKBAR booking fee (currently £2.49) on top of the Stylist’s price, shown before payment. Any change to the standard commission rate that applies to a Stylist will be made on at least 30 days’ written notice, as set out in the Stylist Agreement.

9. Cancellations & Refunds

Client Cancellations

Cancellation policies may vary between Stylists. Clients are responsible for reviewing cancellation terms before booking.

Each Stylist sets their own cancellation policy, consisting of a Cancellation Window (for example: a full refund up to 48 hours before the Booking, 50% up to 24 hours before, and no refund after that) and, optionally, a Deposit (a percentage of the Booking value).

If a Client cancels before the full-refund period ends, the Booking is refunded in full (or the payment hold released), less any Deposit.

If a Client cancels after that but before the no-refund period, 50% of the Booking value is refunded. If a Client cancels within the no-refund period, nothing is refunded. Where the Stylist’s Deposit is more than the amount otherwise kept, the Deposit is kept instead. Any amount not refunded is charged to the Client’s card, and the rest of any hold is released.

If a Client fails to attend a confirmed Booking without cancelling (a no-show), the full Booking amount will be charged, regardless of the Stylist’s usual Cancellation Window or Deposit amount.

A fixed BLKBAR booking fee of £2.49 is added to each Booking at checkout and shown to the Client before payment is authorised. This fee is retained by BLKBAR except where the Client is entitled to a full refund of the Booking — including where the Stylist cancels, or where the Client cancels with enough notice that nothing is kept — in which case it is refunded in full.

The Stylist’s Cancellation Window and any Deposit are displayed to the Client before payment is authorised, and the exact refund is shown at the point of cancellation, before the Client confirms.

Where a Booking is scheduled to take place within 14 days of payment, the Client expressly requests that the Stylist’s service begin within this period and acknowledges that, by confirming the Booking, the Stylist’s Cancellation Window and Deposit policy applies in place of the standard 14-day cancellation right under the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013. This acknowledgment will be separately confirmed by the Client at the point of payment.

Stylist Cancellations

If a Stylist cancels a booking, the Client may be eligible for:

A refund

Rescheduling

Account credit

Regardless of the Stylist’s Cancellation Window, if the Stylist cancels a confirmed Booking, the Client will always receive a full refund (the payment hold will be released in full).

Reporting a problem

If something goes wrong with a completed Booking, the Client can report it in the app (open the receipt, then Report a problem) within 7 days of the appointment ending. There’s one report per Booking. BLKBAR reviews each report, may contact both parties, and may use the photos the Stylist took of the finished service. We may refund all or part of the Booking, or decide no refund is due, and we’ll explain our decision in the app. While a report is open, the Stylist’s payment for that Booking is held. After the 7 days, reports can’t be opened in the app; contact team@blkbar.co.

Refunds

BLKBAR does not guarantee refunds for dissatisfaction with services provided by independent Stylists.

Requests for a refund based on dissatisfaction with a Stylist’s service are considered separately from the Booking’s Cancellation Window and Deposit. Dissatisfaction with a completed service does not entitle a Client to reclaim a Deposit that was properly charged in accordance with the Stylist’s cancellation policy. However, we may investigate disputes and assist where appropriate.

Refund decisions may depend on:

Evidence provided

Communication records

Stylist policies

Platform rules

BLKBAR reserves the right to make final decisions regarding platform-mediated disputes.

10. Reviews & Ratings

Clients may leave reviews and ratings following completed bookings. Reviews must:

Be truthful

Be based on genuine experiences

Not contain abusive, discriminatory, or defamatory content

BLKBAR may remove reviews that:

Violate these Terms

Contain hate speech or harassment

Are misleading or fraudulent

We reserve the right to moderate user-generated content. Anyone can report a review in the app, and we deal with reports as set out in Section 11 (Community standards).

11. User Conduct

Users must not:

Use the Platform illegally

Impersonate others

Upload malicious software

Attempt unauthorised access to systems

Harass or threaten users

Circumvent platform fees

Use discriminatory or hateful language

Manipulate reviews or ratings

Violation of these rules may result in account suspension or termination.

Community standards

BLKBAR has zero tolerance for objectionable content or abusive users. You must not post, send or upload anything abusive, hateful, discriminatory, sexually explicit, violent or threatening, or anything that harasses, bullies or impersonates another person, in posts, photos, profiles, reviews or messages.

You can report any post, review, message or account in the app, and you can block any user so they can no longer contact you. We review every report within 24 hours. Where content or behaviour breaks these standards, we remove the content and may suspend or permanently remove the account responsible. You can also contact us about content or conduct at team@blkbar.co.

12. Intellectual Property

All intellectual property relating to BLKBAR, including logos, branding, software, designs, graphics, content, and features, is owned by or licensed to BLKBAR Ltd.

Users may not copy, reproduce, modify, sell, reverse engineer, or distribute any part of the Platform without written permission.

Users retain ownership of content they upload but grant BLKBAR a non-exclusive licence to display and use such content for operating and promoting the Platform.

13. Platform Availability

We aim to keep the Platform operational and reliable but do not guarantee uninterrupted access. We may temporarily suspend services for maintenance, updates, security issues, or technical failures. BLKBAR is not liable for losses resulting from temporary downtime.

14. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, BLKBAR shall not be liable for:

Loss of profits

Loss of business

Indirect damages

Emotional distress

Service dissatisfaction

Personal disputes between users

Actions of independent Stylists

BLKBAR does not guarantee:

The quality of services provided by Stylists

Stylist availability

Specific outcomes from services

That any Stylist holds valid or adequate insurance

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits BLKBAR’s liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for any other liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited under the laws of England and Wales, including a Client’s statutory rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015.

15. Indemnity

Users agree to indemnify and hold harmless BLKBAR Ltd against claims, losses, liabilities, damages, and expenses arising from:

Breach of these Terms

Misuse of the Platform

Violation of laws

Disputes with other users

In the case of a Stylist, any claim arising from the Stylist’s lack of, inadequate, or lapsed insurance

16. Privacy & Data Protection

Use of the Platform is also governed by our Privacy Policy. By using BLKBAR, users consent to the collection and processing of personal information as described in the Privacy Policy.

17. Third-Party Services

The Platform may integrate or link with third-party services including payment processors, analytics providers, social media platforms, and external websites. BLKBAR is not responsible for third-party services or their policies. Users interact with third parties at their own risk.

18. Termination

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate access to the Platform at any time where these Terms are violated, fraudulent behaviour is suspected, illegal activity occurs, or user conduct harms the Platform or community. Termination may occur without prior notice in serious cases.

19. Changes to the Terms

We may update these Terms periodically. We will give notice of material changes at least 14 days before they take effect, through email notifications, website notices, or in-app alerts. Continued use of the Platform after the changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.

20. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes arising from these Terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
